Admissions

Application Deadline

In order to ensure consideration for Autumn Quarter admission, the Museology Graduate Program requires application materials be submitted or postmarked no later than February 1. However, applicants are strongly advised to send their completed applications as early as possible (before February 1).

International Applicants: It is recommended that international students apply by November 1 to ensure that the necessary visa paperwork can completed in time for Autumn admission.

How to Apply

Admission to the University of Washington is necessarily a selective process. Prospective students must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Hold a baccalaureate degree from an accredited college or university in the U.S. or its equivalent from a foreign institution.
  • Have earned at least a 3.0 or B grade-point-average in the most recent 2 years of study.

All parts of the application process for 2008 should be submitted through the Graduate School Application for Admission. The only exception will be official transcripts from other institutions provided in hard copy.

You will be asked to provide the following materials as part of the Graduate School Application for Admission.

  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Official GRE scores submitted to the University of Washington, reporting code 4854
  • TOEFL scores for international applicants
  • Statement of purpose
  • Essay discussing the greatest challenges and opportunities facing museums in the next twenty years
  • Résumé
  • Unofficial transcripts in PDF format (optional)

Official transcripts of all academic work must be sent directly to the following address:

Museology Graduate Program
University of Washington
Educational Outreach
Box 359485
Seattle, WA 98195-9485

NOTE: Unofficial transcripts submitted through the Graduate School Application for Admission are OPTIONAL. If you are experiencing difficulties uploading your unofficial transcripts, please submit your application without this optional step. Program representatives cannot answer questions or update your file until the entire application has been submitted.

Application Tips:

  • Your Graduate School Application for Admission serves as a central electronic file to which your GRE and TOEFL scores are matched. You must submit your online application before your official scores can become part of your application packet.
  • Please ensure that the e-mail address you provide in your application will be valid for several months. This is the address that we will use to communicate with you throughout the admission process.
  • The online application fee must be submitted directly to the Graduate School, not to the Museology Graduate Program. Please view the Graduate School Application for Admission page for current fee information.
  • If your undergraduate institution uses an electronic transmission process to submit transcripts, please contact us so that we can access your transcripts accordingly.

For information about instructional fees and financial aid, see Earning the Degree. If you have any questions, please send us an e-mail.
